MORE ON PAIGNTON 'BANG!' PAPERBACK LAUNCH/BOOKSIGNING

Matthew Clarke of the Torbay Book shop told brianmay.com

"The story of why Brian is heading South West, starts with Patrick joining the RAF with my father when they were in their teens, so I've known him since I looked like a 'poached egg' (according to Patrick!). He taught me to read and write and officially opened our original shop back in 1993.

At a talk at Torquay Boys Grammar School that Patrick was giving, the guy who arranged it, Chris Lintott, gave the vote of thanks, so Patrick and I took him out for dinner to say thanks.

From then on Chris and Patrick became firm friends and Chris became a regular guest on The Sky at Night whilst studying at Cambridge. Subsequently he now co-presents the programme. Chris was born in Paignton so it is great to be able to get the three of them together to do a launch signing session down here in Paignton. The other reason, of course, is that Brian spent some of his childhood holidays down here!

So we're in our sixteenth year here at The Torbay Bookshop, we were voted Independent Bookseller of the Year in 2006 and are up again for the award next month. We have also been shortlisted for The Marketing Campaign of the Year, the others in the list are WHSmith, Waterstones and Amazon. So it would be rather fun if we won it!"

The Launch/Booksigning by Brian May, Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott of the paperback edition of Bang! The Complete History of The Universe takes place next Saturday, as follows:
