ASTRONOMY QUESTION TIME EVENT13 Apr 2007Royal Astronomical Society - NATIONAL ASTRONOMY MEETING 2007 WHO: University of Central Lancashire WHAT: ‘Question Time’ event at the National Astronomy Meeting 2007 WHERE: Darwin Building Lecture Theatre, University of Central Lancashire, Preston WHEN: April 16th 2007 at 19:30 The Royal Astronomical Society and the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, will be hosting a ‘Question Time’ event at the UK National Astronomy Meeting (NAM) 2007. The event will be streamed live at www.nam2007.uclan.ac.uk/questiontime.php. Copies of the event will also be available. During this meeting, members of the public will have the chance to put their question to a panel of astronomy experts in a ‘Question Time’ style debate. On the evening of Monday, 16 April 2007, the public are invited to attend “Astronomy Question Time” at UCLan or watch the discussion live via the NAM website. The Question Time panel includes Dr Chris Lintott, co-presenter of long-running television programme ‘The Sky at Night’, Jocelyn Bell Burnell, CBE, FRS Oxford and Professor Don Kurtz from UCLan. Dr Robert Walsh, a research astronomer at UCLan and the event organiser said, ’The mysteries of outer space fascinate people of all ages. This Question Time event really is a wonderful opportunity the public to be part of a timely discussion on how astronomy and space science has an impact on people's everyday lives. “ Professor Michael Rowan-Robinson, President of the Royal Astronomical Society, added that the National Astronomy Meeting at Preston really is “the UK's premier meeting for the astronomy, solar system and space science communities”. RAS-NAM provides a unique opportunity to showcase the internationally competitive astrophysical research that is taking place in Britain today. During five event-packed days (16 to 20 April), NAM will bring together over 450 international researchers across a broad range of astronomy disciplines to discuss recent discoveries and developments.
