ROYAL SOCIETY SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED26 Apr 2007The Royal Society Prizes for Science Books celebrates the very best in popular science writing for adults and children. The 2007 prizes recognize the best books published for the first time in English in 2006. On 5 April 2007, The Royal Society announced their longlist of 12 titles for the coveted General Prize. As previosuly reported, the longlist included the beautiful and informative astronomy book, "Bang! The History of the Universe" by Sir Patrick Moore, Brian May and Chris Lintott. The General Prize shortlist has now been announced (26 April 2007) but sadly, Bang! isn't among the half dozen chosen to go forward to the final round of judging, although to be among the twelve finalists for the world’s most prestigious awards for science writing is, in itself, an exceedingly fine achievement. The shortlist judging panel was headed by the Open University scientist, Colin Pillinger. The winner of the prize will be announced May 15. The six remaining contenders are: - Homo Britannicus by Chris Stringer (Penguin Allen Lane) - In Search of Memory by Eric R. Kandel (WW Norton & Co) - Lonesome George by Henry Nicholls (Macmillan) - One in Three by Adam Wishart (Profile Books) - Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert (Harper Press) - The Rough Guide to Climate Change by Robert Henson (Rough Guides) Royal Society Prizes for Science Books The Guardian [Thanks to BrianMay.com] view all latest newsitems |
